nerdherdchuck: (OOC)
Well, as some of you may have read, a sudden storm swept across the northeast of the US leaving millions without power. I am one of those powerless folks. I'm posting now from the road, but wanted to leave a note that I will get to tags owed once we get power back. Some estimates have us not getting it until Thursday though.

But I'll get back to tagging once I can, I promise.

Sorry guys. :(

It's an exhibit opening next spring at the Smithsonian.

And yes, I definitely will be voting for my favorites to make it into the final exhibit!

So, uh...I saw we could send out random gifts today. And...I sent some...not exactly knowing what was in the box.

Come to find out that light green box...contained a gopher. Why a gopher, I have no idea. But now both Sarah and Hiro have one...

you are turquoise
#40E0D0

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is higher than average - You know what you want, but sometimes know not to tell everyone. You value accomplishments and know you can get the job done, so don't be afraid to run out and make things happen.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

That is...pretty much me.

When I started to open up Morgan's gift, my buddy began to explain, "Your gift isn't quite complete yet but, I still hope you like it."

"Morgan, I'm sure I will," I replied as I continued to unwrap the cylindrical shaped object. Once the paper was removed, I could see a black tube with a plastic cap at the top. I popped off the cap and reached inside the tube. Feeling something of rolled up glossy paper, I carefully removed the roll and then unrolled it to reveal a TRON: Legacy movie poster.

Grinning, I turned back to Morgan.

"I was gonna get it framed to match the original TRON poster you got but, between the missions and the crazy hours at the Buy More-"

I stopped Morgan right there. "You don't need to apologize or anything. This is a kick ass gift, Morgan."

"I still owe you a frame."

There was no convincing him otherwise so I just remarked, "If you insist. But it's still cool the way it is."

Okay.

The only one I can think of at the moment is the classic tale of the frustrated tech support worker though. It's been retold and updated over the years so that it no longer references DOS and has wireless technology. The latest way I've heard it was something like this:

Tech Support: How may I help you today?

Customer: Well, I was using my desktop computer and then the screen went black. I can't seem to get anything to work.

Tech Support: Oh, I see. Have you tried moving the mouse? Sometimes a screen saver or a power save mode feature will kick in causing the the screen to go black.

Customer: Oh okay, let me try that.

(A moment passes.)

Customer: No, sorry. That didn't help. The screen is still black.

Tech Support: Try to check the cable for the mouse to see if it's still plugged in.

Customer: There isn't one.

Tech Support: Oh, it's a wireless mouse then. Flip it over. Do you see a red light still on?

Customer: I do.

Tech Support: Then lets make sure the receiver still is working. Is there a little rectangular object plugged into the computer?

Customer: I don't see one.

Tech Support: Please check around the machine to see if it's fallen out of the USB slot.

Customer: The what?

Tech Support: The USB slot. It's a grooved socket that's shaped like a rounded rectangle.

Customer: I can't see one.

Tech Support: There should be several on the machine-

Customer: Well, I really can't see anything at the moment.

Tech Support: Why not?

Customer: Because the office is totally dark. I think the power went out.

Tech Support: Sir, the computer cannot operate without any power.

Customer: Then why is there a light on the mouse?

Tech Support: Because that works on a battery.

Customer: Well, I feel dumb.

Tech Support: You should. Honestly, I think you're too stupid to own a computer.

It's probably not quite as good as the original though.

I've updated Chuck's e-mail address on his profile to the nerdherdchuck@livejournal.com one. The nerdherdchuck GMail account still works, but since I don't log into it too often, I just figured I'd update his profile with a better address to reach him at.

The Contact post has also been updated.

I finally got around to getting all my muse notifs sent to 1 e-mail address to save time. :)

I'd say so. My room is pretty neat and my work space at the Nerd Herd desk is too. So I can find just about everything I'm looking for when we need to find it.

I try to keep the apartment neat too.

But...I'm maybe not so organized when it comes to forming plans for spy missions. At least, not all the time. I'm getting better though. But in the past, I just sorta charged into a place trying to help. When I did that, I usually ended up getting captured myself. Or, sometimes by dumb luck, I'd do something that ended up saving the team.

One thing I have noticed is that hidden stashes of weapons are always very organized. Whether they're guns or knives, Sarah and Casey's weapons are always hidden under something, or behind something, and each weapon is being held in a slot with Styrofoam all around it.

I don't have anything like that but...then again, I don't tend to carry weapons like those. [/locked]

Thanks for sending the virtual gift. And it is definitely nice that it can help people in the Gulf.
