Comic-Con (open RP)

ooc: This post is open to everyone. It's complete bendy time too. Feel free to drop by, chat with one another and have fun!

The San Diego convention center was filled with all sorts of exhibits, panels and vendors selling all sorts of collectibles. There seemed to be so much to do and tons of events worth seeing.

"I'm finally here," Chuck commented out loud to no one in particular.

Jack honestly couldn't believe he was at Comic-con. If it weren't for Chuck and Hiro, he probably wouldn't have come at all. He had always harbored a slight interest for the sense of the fantastic, but his sense of reason overwhelmed that long ago and somewhere along the line Jack Shephard had all but forgotten what it was like to suspend disbelief.

Yet deep down there was still an inkling of that boy who was fascinated with Superman, as Jack had willingly come. With a smile, he looked over at Chuck. "Yeah, we are. You're the expert, where do we even start?"

"We need to go to registration," Hiro mutters. Fortunately, he and Ando got here on Tuesday, so he didn't have to worry about luggage or anything like that. "Then get the schedule so we know what panels or programs we want to go to."

"Yeah, Hiro's right. We'll have to go to registration first. I did print out some of the schedules from the website though so we'd have something before we got here. But the one at the registration area will probably have some other things listed on it. Like whee certain vendors are."

Chuck pulled his printed copy of the schedule out of his back pocket. "Ooh. The day starts out with a panel called 'The Gene Roddenberry Legacy: Roddenberry in the 21st Century.' From the write up, it sounds like they're discussing projects in the works and in production. They probably can't go much into detail about the new movie but still...that might be a neat one to start with. What do you think?"

"We must go to that one. His son will be there." Hiro pulls out his rather mangled printout. He's got things circled, doubled circled, circled and underlined. He's got a printed schedule for the panels he wants to go to. If they leave him in charge of scheduling, he's going to be a martinet.

"Yeah, I read that too and that's pretty cool." Chuck glances at Hiro's print out. "What's the panel or event you wanna see the most?"

He then begins walking towards the registration area.

"This was the first one. I really wanted to see this panel."

The registration runs smoothly and they're soon loaded with their con bags, badges and freebies.

"Okie!" Chuck looks in his bag. "They have us some neat freebies. Looks like we got a couple of promo disks for stuff."

He then takes out his schedule again. "According to the schedule, we need to find Room 10 for the Roddenberry panel."

Tommy had never been a huge comic book fan, but as an artist in his own right he could appreciate talent. Okay, and admittedly he was kind of a whore for anything that came out of Dark Horse or the brain of Todd McFarlane period. And then there was Frank Miller...

Comic book geek in hiding. Just something else to add to his list of secret identities.

It didn't hurt that he had a work-related excuse to be there, too. He knew a guy that had made him aware of a company that did t-shirts that were looking to upgrade their image. Making the drive from Hollywood to San Diego was a little much, but the office would pay for it if he could get the company to agree to a sit down with Black Saber Studios.

So it was that Tommy found himself making the solo trek...and ending up poring over the offerings at pretty much every stall he passed. As he roamed, his mind was constantly working...not only on some sketches he wanted to do, but maybe on some form of pulp art illusion. Grand illusion, he could bring a comic book to life, or even close up he could screw around with a print graphic novel...

He was hard pressed to admit it to himself, but Tommy was having the time of his life.

Chuck was looking over his schedule and not quite watching where he was going when he bumped into Tommy.

"Oh! S-sorry...I-I wasn't watching where I was going."

At the same time, Tommy had been poring over an issue of a Hellboy comic when he bumped into Chuck.

Reaching out instantly to catch the other man's elbow, steadying them both, Tommy blushed and stammered out an apology of his own in his muddled Brooklyn accent.

"No, it was my fault, bro. Seriously, I'm so sorry...hey, is that a schedule? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, just...I ain't got mine on me, mind if I peek over your shoulder?..."

Jack wants to point out that it wasn't technically free, they had their entry fee, but he decides against it, not wanting to ruin the fun.

Amidst the excitement, he felt a bit like the odd man out, In a hushed voice he asks Chuck and Hiro "Please don't give me dirty looks but... Who is Gene Roddenberry?"

"Nothing to be sorry for, really," Chuck replied. He then held out his print out of the schedule. "Yeah, I printed it from the website before I came." He then held it out to Tommy. "You can take a look if you'd like. Oh and...I'm Chuck, by the way. Nice to meet you."

"Um, the guy who created Star Trek?" Chuck answers, a bit surprised Jack didn't know that.

Ok, that one should have been obvious. Jack cringes a little. "I've seen some Star Trek, yeah, but I didn't know. If you haven't noticed, I don't know nearly as much about all of this stuff as you and Hiro do. I'm happy to be here, but you might have to treat me like a beginner."

"Well...I mean...I kinda thought that was common knowledge. Like George Lucas creating Star Wars." Chuck then shrugs and smiles adding, "It's okay. We'll be happy to explain stuff if you have questions."

"Well, it might be common knowledge for some people. I think it all depends on who you ask." He follows Chuck as they walk. "For now I think I'll just watch and listen, I'm ok with being an observer."

"I guess so," Chuck replies as he nods. "An observer, huh? Sure there isn't something that maybe you wanna see in particular?" Chuck then hands a copy of the schedule for Jack to look over.

"Gee, thanks." Tommy replied, shaking himself a little when Chuck introduced himself. "Sorry...Karras, Tommy Karras. It's great to meet ya." he replied, offering his hand to shake before skimming the schedule.

"Man, I can't believe I almost didn't come to this thing...aw, man, Marvel panel at two? Sweet!"

Tommy paused, then grinned as he folded the schedule in half, then abruptly tore it in two. Handing Chuck half, he opened his own...then opened it again to show a full copy of the schedule, identical to the one Chuck would find when he opened his own half of the "ripped" schedule.

"Here...this way I ain't gonna have to impose again."

Hiro immediately snaps out the map of the convention space. "This way," he says just as he charges off in that direction.

Hiro sees this happen. "How did you do that?" His eyes are very wide.

Glancing over his shoulder at the new voice, Tommy grinned and folded his copy of the schedule, sliding it into the swag bag he was carrying as he faced the newcomer.

"Simple: magic." he replied, reaching out with one empty hand to seemingly pluck a playing card out of thin air. "You like magic, bro?"

Jack looks over the program. "Well, I'd kinda like to visit the Superman - Man of Tomorrow panel. It looks like it's gonna be some of the writers and artists talking about in what direction they're going to be taking Superman in the future. It looks pretty interesting, but it doesn't start until later." He'd be happy going to anything related to Superman really.

Not wanting to be left behind, Jack quickly changes direction to follow Hiro. He obviously knows where he's going and has a plan of action.

Looking sideways at Theresa, Nick shook his head. "I know that ya know me too well Tes, but I never thought in a million years ya'd actually *encourage* me t' g' t' Comic Con. I never thought anyone would encourage me t' come here, period, let alone my girlfriend," Nick added with a slight laugh, looking around the place.

Hiro is startled by the young man Chuck is speaking to..
