Writer's Block: The Best Invention

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Wow, tough question. I mean...the computer is probably the best all around item ever. You can play games, communicate with people, get your news from all over the world...

And pretty much lock yourself away from civilization for a little while.

*laughs*

I hear that! Since I decided to do this whole 'journal' thing, I think I've become addicted.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
*grins*

I became addicted before I got my journal though.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah?

Remember: I can barely work my alarm clock. I'm amazed I've figured out this whole journal thing.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kinda always liked computers...playing games, stuff like that.

An alarm clock? Well...maybe you need a more simple one. They do have some out there with crazy features and too many buttons.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I've never played a game on the computer that wasn't free cell or solitaire. Am I missing something?

My alarm clock isn't that complicated.. it's just that it goes off far earlier than I'd like *winks*

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
In my book, yes. But...you know...'Call of Duty' and 'World of Warcraft' aren't for everyone.

I played games for a long time though. I remember playing this text based adventure called 'Zork' when I was a kid and kinda wanted to program my own version of the game back in college. *sheepishly grins*

Oh, gotcha. Ever throw anything at it? My girlfriend did that once and broke hers. She threw a knife though.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
'Zork'? Wow.

I had a friend try to get me to play the Sims but I have enough troubles with my own life and remembering to feed myself. Plus, I can barely keep my plants alive, let alone some little computer people.

And I've throw my shoe at it a few times. And thrown the alarm clock itself. Though, don't tell anyone. That'd be bad for my image.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
And it also gave both of us jobs!

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Most people don't remember it and give a sort of blank stare when I mention it.

Those little computer people have minds of their own. Sometimes you try to feed them and they're hungry but they won't eat. It can kinda get frustrating.

I promise I won't say anything.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
It did!

If I had to think of my second favorite invention, I'd probably go with video games. *grins*

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you remember it and that's really all that matters.

And they do have minds of their own! I like giving orders and knowing they'll be fulfilled. Maybe that's another reason why that game frustrated me.

I watch the Muppets. That's how I relax.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess so. *nods*

You'd think they'd do what you told them to do...especially when they needed to eat, sleep or go to the bathroom or whatever.

My friend Rachel sent me a Muppets clip of Beaker with 'Never Gonna Give You Up' dubbed into his mouth. It was kinda funny. *grins*

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
People rarely do what they tell you to do. Trust me, as a boss of well..hundreds, I knew that if I told my employees to do something? Maybe 90% would actually listen. The other 10% would be busy trying to figure out a way to not do what I asked them to do. It was ridiculous.

Have you seen those new clips that were released just for youtube? With Beaker singing 'Habanera' and such? Priceless.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
*Hiro gives him a thumbs up.* I have to agree.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, in real life, yeah. I mean...I kinda know that from being a supervisor. Not that I supervise many people but...yeah...my fellow Nerd Herders don't always listen to me. So...while I dunno how it is on a large scale, I do know how it is on a small one.

But you'd at least think little computer people would listen to you.

Yup, I saw that. *grins* Pretty cute.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
*smiles* I thought you might.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Little computer people are just as frustrating as real life humans. Going to be honest, I'm a little happy I won't be the absolute boss anymore. I'll probably miss it within a few months, and thankfully, that's when my position will be done. After that, I'll go back to being a boss with another position I have. I think the break should be good.

Nerd Herders. I shouldn't want to giggle every time I see that word, but I do. What a lovely name.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I am predictable.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember when we last spoke you said you needed a change and all. So hopefully the break will be good. And hopefully you'll like this new position.

*sheepishly chuckles* Lovely huh?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins*

What would you choose as your favorite invention?

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* I hope so too. And I'm sure I'll like it. DC is a beautiful place.

And I really do feel sorry for you being called a Nerd Herder. But you must like where you're at, if you've stayed there.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
My friend Rachel seemed to like it there. She just moved away since she got a job offer she couldn't pass up.

It seems like there's a lot to do there, you know?

Um...well...it's not exactly where I envisioned myself staying. But, I guess we'll see what happens.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I can understand that. I'm moving for a job too, one that I made him give me *laughs*. I called him and said 'I quit my job. Want to hire me." and he said "Yes, a thousand times, yes." *shakes head* Oh man..

And you don't have to stay there. You seem a smart enough guy, nice enough. If I was still working at Stark, I think I'd hire you.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! Tha-that's really great. I mean...wow. I guess you know this guy pretty well or your reputation really proceeds you. Or both.

Thanks Pepper. I...you see....kinda ran into some problems finding a job. I...was expelled from college after being wrongfully accused of cheating. And...s-so when companies do background checks, it comes up I was expelled and then after that...well, I don't get any callbacks. Even though I try to explain I didn't really cheat, the claim sorta falls on deaf ears.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
It would be the reputation. I've never met the man before and only talked to him twice previously.

*nods sympathetically* That sounds really unfair, but as someone that used to be in charge of hiring, I can see how that would cloud their judgments. For me, however, I was always willing to give anyone a chance, if it seemed like they deserved it. Heck, Tony made me hire a girl that during her speech thanking him for a scholarship, she made it a point to attack his policies and his weapons. Still got hired though.
