Halloween Party (open RP)

Chuck donned his ren faire ruffled shirt and vest once again. Although he would eventually break into the Sandworm costume, he thought to have something costume-ish on in the meantime.

The courtyard outside Chuck and Ellie's apartment was decorated with Halloween lights and spooky decorations. Music played as costumed guests mingled with one another while a couple were helping themselves to the snacks and punch set up on a table at the edge of the courtyard.

"It was. We tried to get Jeff to beat his high score but he kinda panicked and couldn't play. So I did."

Chuck snickered. "Yeah, it probably does. Wouldn't know though."

"Harry was our old assistant manager. He was on a power trip big time. Basically tried to control everyone and everything in the store. But eventually he got a job in Hawaii so he took it. And that's the last we saw of him."

"Well, thanks for the daily words of wisdom."

"I see. Might want to talk to a lawyer then." Casey was having fun with this. Maybe since he already made plans to never have the life of the mini van and the Costco trips.

"I know, right?" She looks at him for a moment, cocking her head slightly. "What about you? How are things going?"

"Pretty good. I finished my last few credits online so now I'm a Stanford graduate!"

Jack scratches the back of his neck. "Packing got better once I stopped panicking about it and thinking more sensibly." He does his best to give Chuck a reassuring smile, but it's shaky, as if he's unsure if he's convinced himself that moving is the best idea. "I'm not sure how long I'll be there, but I was told that I at least won't be obligated to stay into the new year."

"Thanks," Jack pushes the glasses up his nose with a finger, subconsciously mimicking the movement that Hiro does so often. "I got the frames from an optometrist friend. He said they've been sitting on a shelf for years because people thought they were ugly. He was happy to get rid of them."

Salome gave him a skeptical look, "You wanna party like a rock star? Because I know a guy who knows a guy. . ." Typical New Yorker.

"That's not a very good punishment, being sent to Hawaii, maybe he was abducted by aliens and they just said he went to Hawaii." She paused. "Blame Hiro's costume."

"Hey! I had to eat like forty fortune cookies to get that little nugget of wisdom so you savor it. Ya hear me?"

Salome continued to fix him with her "are you crazy" stare, "I should talk to . . ." She shook her head stopping that train of thought. "I don't need to talk to a lawyer, you just need to have a kid."

"Really! That is so totally exciting! Congratualtions!" She totally hugs him too, cause that's what you do when you hear news like this!

"I actually made it to the final kill screen." Chuck then grinned.

"Thanks sis!" He hugs her back, smiling as he does so.

Chuck shrugged. "I think the closest I'll be to a rock star is a master of 'Guitar Hero.'"

He laughed. Oddly enough...Salome wasn't as far off as she may have thought. Okay, it wasn't aliens who relocated Harry; it was federal agents. But still, Harry was suddenly relocated and a cover story was generated.

"It's all good," he said to her.

"Well, that's really not that long at all. I mean...maybe two months tops? That is...if you don't stay past the New Year. I'm sure it'll all work out though. And a change of scenery might be good for you, you know?"

"And if you ever make a guitar that actually plays like that in real life, then you will be set. Leather pants and weird silk shirts are yours for life," she reminded him with a shake of her finger and then laughed.

"I keep forgetting you live in California, you're way more tolerant of crazy then other people are. Though I live in mortal fear of getting flashed by one of those memory eraser thingies." It was the technical name for it she was sure.

"Loud and clear," Casey remarks.

His eyes go a bit wide and he gives Salome a sort of 'WTF?' look. "Me? Have a kid?"

"Good man, good man." A very serious nod.

Salome loves the WTF looks from him, and if he can tease her, she'll tease right back. "Awhhh yeah! You'd be a good dad, I can see it with your mini van and the soccer team in the back . . . Or is it baseball? I like soccer."

"Right, John Casey, soccer Dad." He shook his head. "I don't think so."

"No! I'm serious, you'll grow into it. Parenthood is one of those things that you grow into." She was grinning now, actually showing teeth. And ready to run at any moment.

"You'll have a golden retriever too!"

Chuck laughed. "Yeah, a real guitar isn't quite the same."

"We kinda have to be. Otherwise, we'd go pretty crazy." He then chuckled at the mention of the memory eraser. "You'd have to ask if Hiro and-" he stopped and then corrected himself, "Check that - Jay and Kay, have them on them."

"All those crazy strings and stuff, I don't know what they expect us to do with them. . ." Giggling she suddenly stopped and looked around wearily.

"Yeah, I might beg off, with my luck either one of them will have one and I'll be seeing stars all night."
