TM #321 - Cool

I never was one of the cool kids. Bryce on the other hand? Yeah, he fit that profile. He was the good looking guy who could have any girl he wanted. (And for awhile, I thought one of those girls was Jill, but she finally confessed that was a lie.)

Anyway...

Despite being that cool guy, Bryce did have some geeky interests. He could speak Klingon, he actually liked the old school computer games like Zork, and he knew about Everquest! I thought it was kinda strange a guy like him would be likely to hang around with a guy like me. But we did get along...until that whole accusing me of cheating thing. (Luckily, that matter was settled somehow so I did get to graduate, but I digress...)

So, yeah. Bryce was the cool one.

[Locked to those who know of his secret life.]

He was a real spy too. Maybe he was really training me all those years. Maybe those games of running around the library with suction cup guns was really just a spy training game. And maybe he learned about Zork just to make up the puzzle to protect the Intersect until I opened the file.

Still, despite some of the things he put me through, I miss him now. And now, I get what he was really trying to do - prepare me for this life once he realized I was kinda destined to become part of it. He at first tried to keep me away but then entrusted me with the Intersect. He knew I'd be able to use it and would do the right thing with it. [/locked]

I guess. I mean...in his line of work, I understand not trusting everyone right away. But...respect? I dunno.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-08 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
To give someone your respect is to place them in a higher level in his mind. To see them as someone worthy of better behavior from him. If he allows that too often, he will paralyze himself. It is not the same as respecting someone because they are a higher rank or because it is polite.

I guess. You have to be careful who you trust in this line of work.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-13 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
*Hiro nods.* You can never be sure who anyone really is.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-17 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
At times. Though it's more scary than frustrating...

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Considering the job, I can understand that. When you do not know who to trust, you can never be sure that your back is covered.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not envy that uncertainty.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of the worst things about the spy life...

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Are you willing to commit to it?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I did. I can help a lot of people with this Intersect and I can't just walk away. I'll never have a normal life anyway. The Ring will want to find me, even if I wasn't a spy.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Then it is wise to become one - to defend yourself.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Thing is...now the General is saying if I pass my spy test, I'll be a real spy. But...I'll be on my own. Sarah will be reassigned and I'll be far form home.

And then there's what happened to Casey...

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Where will you be? At least I can get anywhere I want to in a moment's notice.

What happened to Casey?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-24 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I go to DC for a debriefing and then I'll be stationed in Italy.

Casey had a run in with someone from his past that recruited him into the spy world. His name was Col. Keller. And Keller turned out to have turned bad and joined up with the Ring. He found Casey and blackmailed him into stealing this experimental pill that suppresses emotions. If Casey didn't steal it, Keller would kill Casey's former girlfriend.

So Casey stole the pill and the General found out. We did manage to stop the Ring from getting it but the fact that Casey stole it was enough for the General. She forced him to become a civilian once again.

Italy? You can speak Italian, yes? Or at least learn it from the Intersect, yes?

How is Casey doing?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Just common phrases. But the Intersect could probably help me actually speak it.

Um...well, he's trying to adjust. But I think it'll take awhile.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I do not know any Italian at all.

I would think so. Perhaps they will forgive him and let him back into his old job? Or maybe you could hire him as a bodyguard?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-24 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
I hope they forgive him. And, hiring him as a bodyguard would be a good idea but they'd probably say it's against some spy rule since he's now a civilian.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
But they know he would be loyal to you. It is not fair.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2010-03-25 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps I should talk about hiring him for security? After all, if he is a civilian, then he is free to take any job he wants and he is more than qualified for it.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2010-03-26 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
He might actually take a job like that.
