Opening Pandora's Box? RP with
powered_otaku and eventually,
The introduction of this RP was written during an AIM conversation between the muns for
powered_otaku and
nerdherdchuck. It's been turned into prose a bit (though there are some missing emotional cues and such) to lead into the RP below.
Hiro knocks on the door to Chuck's apartment. When Chuck answers it, he sees his friend standing in the doorway looking rather upset about something.
"C'mon in," Chuck offers, looking concerned. After Hiro enters the apartment, Chuck closes the door behind him. "You okay?" he askes.
Hiro attempts a smile but then shook his head and says, "I need to distract myself."
"I'll fire up the DVD player or something if it'll help," Chuck offers. "A superhero movie...maybe some 'Star Trek-'"
"Star Trek is good! We can watch 'The Next Generation,'" Hiro suggests.
Chuck heads to his room and brings back his 'Next Generation' boxset. Then he returns to the living room where Hiro is waiting. "Well, I'll start up the movie and if you want we can heat up pizza or something."
"Pizza is good."
"Okie dokie, be right back," Chuck replies as he heads off to the kitchen.
Hiro nods and draws his knees up as he sits on the couch.
A few minutes later, Chuck returns with the pizza. Hiro uncurls and picks up a slice. "This is good," he says.
"Any particular episode you wanna watch? Best of Both Worlds, maybe?"
"That is a good one. Yes, thank you."
Chuck puts the proper DVD in the player and selects the suggested episode from the DVD menu. "Cool!"
The boys settle down to watch and then Hiro says, "Life can be strange."
"You're telling me..." Chuck replies, thinking of his current life.
"Soon it will be you...Perhaps we should make sure to stock a few pizzas?"
Chuck blinks. "S-sure, I can...make some others." He then looks at Hiro, rather confused, "Soon it'll be me...what?"
"The future is coming, Chuck," Hiro replies.
"Riight..." Chuck still is confused by Hiro's words and asks nervously, "D-did you...see something...that happens that...isn't good for one or both of us?"
"Ando kills me."
Chuck can't believe what he just heard his friend say and in total shock, stammers, "Wha? Why? How?"
"With his ability," Hiro solemnly continues, "He somehow has an ability and he kills me."
Chuck is still stunned. Unsure of what to say, he asks, "Are...I mean...maybe...there's someone else's power doing that?"
"I am hoping that is it. But I will still be dead!"
"Well...maybe not. Maybe...you can figure out how that happened and stop it?"
"I am trying to, but I keep doing the wrong thing, I think."
"Why do you think that?"
"Because I keep upsetting him."
"Did you tell Ando what you saw?"
Hiro nods. "He keeps saying he will not, but then I do something stupid that makes me think he will resent me more."
"Like what?"
"I did not tell him the whole plan."
"How come?"
"I do not know. Part of me is not trusting him."
"Oh." Chuck bites his lip slightly. "Well...if there's anything maybe I can do to help...maybe there's-" He stops himself and points to his head before continuing, "Something up here that can help or...just, in general if you want to vent or whatever...I'm here for ya."
"Thank you. I think I will be taking up on your kind offer. I have died too many times already."
"I don't want...that to happen."
"Me neither."
Chuck looks at Hiro and then back at the TV and then back at Hiro, at a loss for words.
Hiro is back to being a ball on the couch. "I especially do not want Ando to kill me."
"We'll figure it out...somehow. I mean...there's gotta be a way..."
"Am I a bad man? Maybe I am wrong and Ando was actually being the hero and I was the villain."
"I don't see how you could be the bad one. But I don't see how Ando could be either. Unless...one of you wasn't...well, the real person or something." Chuck thinks for a moment and asks, "Before...he killed you what was going on?"
"He was trying to take back the formula that has been stolen from me. I suppose that I had managed to get it back."
Chuck looks puzzled. "What formula?"
"Father left half of a formula to protect. If someone gets it, it could destroy the world. I was stupid. I opened the safe when he told me not to. A girl who can move very fast stole it from me. I let Ando get hurt. She cut him with a knife."
"Oh man..I wonder what that formula does." Chuck shudders. "But...couldn't you stop the girl by stopping time?"
"I could not stop her completely. She travels so fast that she eventually catches up with what time I am holding."
"Wow."
"I can still move faster than she can, but I cannot hold her like I can others."
"So...when you tried to hold her, she broke free and hurt Ando?"
"Yes. She pulled a knife and lay it against his throat." Hiro then tries to make himself a smaller ball. "I let him get hurt."
Chuck looks at his friend sympathetically. "You couldn't have known what she was going to do. It was an accident."
"I know, but I hesitated. I should have let go right away."
"You never dealt with anything like this." He shook his head. "But Ando's okay, right?"
"He is ok. I...just feel so guilty that he got hurt."
Chuck nods sadly. "You did your best...that's all you could have done." He then sighs.
"No, I did not. That is why I am so angry."
There is a puzzled look on Chuck's face. "What do you mean?"

"We were supposed to exchange the formula for her medal. However, before she returned to her place, I went back to Japan, after freezing time there and got a small bug to put on the medal so that if she managed to get it back without giving me the formula, I would still be able to follow her. I...did not tell Ando I had done it until after she hurt him."

Chuck listened to Hiro's explanation of the plan but still felt he was missing something. "Medal? What medal?"
no subject
"I was trying to figure out what the thief would hold as dear. After all, the things they have they know can be taken away should someone figure out they have stolen them. But there was a medal from her highschool, I think. Such a thing has much sentimental value. So I held it hostage for the return of the formula."

He nodded. "Something of sentimental value is very valuable. That was pretty smart of you to bug that." Chuck then stopped himself. "Speaking of which...seeing there are bugs planted around here..."
He turned to Hiro and finished his thought. "Which means...Casey could have been listening to all of this!"

Hiro looks ather confused about what Chuck is saying until he says the last.

He could have barged in, but instead knocked on the door to Chuck's apartment. Time to have a chat with Chuck's friend.

"All right. I've heard just about everything said since you," he then paused and pointed to Hiro, "got here."
With a growl, he continued, "I still don't quite get what's going on. But it doesn't sound good."

Casey then thought for a moment. "Yeah, I'd be curious. But I'd do some detective work first. That way I'd have some idea of what it was that was in there."

He turned back towards Hiro. "I still think you're a moron." He then made a fist and went to bonk Hiro on top of his head.

"That's a good idea," he replied once Hiro was safe. "Plus it'll help mend things between you and Ando."
