The How's My Driving Meme

Yeah, I think this has gone around before. But I don't remember if I ever gave my thoughts on how I play Chuck the last time or if I just asked others for feedback.

Oh well, I'll critique myself this time around regardless.

I've played Chuck now for just over two years. When I started playing him, I was worried I wouldn't be able to pull him off. And I really wanted to be able to do him justice since he's a character I enjoy a lot. As time went on, I feel I got a better handle on his voice though of late, I feel I may have lost some of that due to lack of time playing and writing him. (That and he hasn't had any new source material since April.)

Still, I really enjoy playing him. He's fairly canon, save for some other muses knowing his secret. He used to have non-canon verses but mostly, those have faded, save for the future verse which shows up now and then in prompts.

So, how is my driving? Anything I need to work on?

I think, personally, you hit the ground running. Chuck, like Hiro, can seem to be very one-note, but he's a lot more subtle than Hiro is. I think you caught on to that very quickly.

As to losing his voice, I don't think you have at all, but I can understand your frustration in having no canon for several months. I don't know if you look for spoilers or anything, but, quite frankly, except for the commercials I haven't seen "boo!" about Chuck at all.

Also, you're playing in a bit a vacuum, which doesn't help. I mean, I have all kinds of "Heroes" people to play with so I get to explore all kinds of parts of the universe (plus having a larger cast to begin with).

I think you do an excellent job playing Chuck. You have his voice down pat and you understand his very gentle nature. I always enjoy playing with Chuck.

Chuck is a geek who is a definite fish out of water. But there is a lot to him - mostly in the conflict between the spy world and the world of his family and friends. And he hold in certain things too.

Aw, thanks. I've seen bits and pieces over at chucktv.net for stuff coming up in Season 3. Nothing too spoilery, mostly just who will be guest starring. But, I guess Chuck encounters the Ring more and we learn Sarah's actual name.

This is true. You not only have the main Heroes around, but some of the characters you have multiple versions of to interact with. Heroes is definitely one of the most (if not the most) played fandom.

Thanks again. And I always enjoy interacting with Hiro.

Well, I also like Chuck's family situation. I'm a bit of a sucker for an older-sibling-raising-younger-sibling story. I like the fact that even with Awesome in her life, Ellie never makes Chuck feel like she won't take care of him and love him to pieces. At the same time, the fact that Chuck has to protect her without her knowing makes a nice twist. Like I said, a lot more subtle.

Oh yeah, I'd heard we'd learn her real name, but there's not much else I've heard.

Exactly. Which is a pity. Cause the Chuck characters are a lot of fun.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. Plus I also like how Awesome thinks of Chuck as a younger brother. There's a dynamic between them too, and I suspect it'll grow now that Awesome knows Chuck's secret. I think it's good Ellie doesn't know yet because it keeps up a dynamic of the spy life and the normal life.

I heard someone else finds out Chuck's secret but I dunno who. Part of me hopes it's Morgan.

They are. There are some around like sarahwalker and had_reasons (Bryce) that post now and then. And someone recently offered to pick up Casey (gruntnumber7) so that's pretty cool.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not completely happy with Awesome knowing, but I think it'll help keep Ellie in the dark and let the spy vs. normal life. The suspension of belief on Chuck being always able to come up with an excuse will be better off having an ally.

Morgan would be good. It's going to hurt, though, especially if he finds out that Awesome's known longer. (Though I guess he could excuse it with Awesome technically being family and keeping Ellie safe).

Oh good! Hopefully the pace will pick up when the season starts up.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. We know Chuck has trouble when he always has to make up a cover story as to where he was and then blurts out weird things about Sarah having a spastic colon or something. So, maybe Awesome can help out to cover for Chuck.

Oh definitely. Plus Chuck could tell Morgan the truth - Awesome found out whereas he's actually telling Morgan. So...maybe that'll lessen the blow.

I hope so. I'd love for someone to pick up Morgan again especially.

Hopefully, but I think Morgan would forgive a lot from Chuck except him not telling him until everyone else knew.

Yeah, Chuck needs his Morgan.

Yeah, I did pick up Casey - at a crap time with Christmas, work (I'm freelance, and take it when I can - unfortunately that means the last month has been chaos) and being bogged down with too many writing commitments - which I should have under control soon! So, hopefully I can start doing prompts and the like to get his voice down. The problem will come with S3, because I'm in the UK (god knows when we will get it), and it means I'll just have to find it online.

He's fun, and I want to do him justice!

No worries on the tagging - whenever you can is fine, really. :) I'd love to see some Casey prompts when you get to them. Any ideas for where you'd like to apply with Casey?

Hopefully, you'll be able to get Chuck on-line but I will be keeping season 3 behind spoiler cuts just to be on the safe side for you and some of the other international muns on my flist.

I like how you're writing Casey so far, by the way.

No idea yet. Most likely throw him at [livejournal.com profile] creative_muses because I have a bazillion muses there (Well. Four). I thought about [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse as I already have a pup there.

I'm sure I will. I'll bug my Canadian friend as to where she gets it!

Thank you! That's fantastic to know.

Chuck is in [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse too. He's been there for over two years now. :)

Cool. I might be able to suggest some sites too.

You're welcome!
