TM #207 - Control
[locked from those who don't know about Chuck's secret life]
Control. Yeah, I once knew what that was.
Okay, I know I've already complained about the spy life and how out of control things can get. But there was one time above all others so far, that things just seemed even more out of control. Like...I thought maybe, just maybe, I had a handle on separating Ordinary Chuck from Human Intersect/Sorta-Spy Chuck.
Then we met up with Mason Whitney.
Here was this guy...he was really not looking so good. And Ellie, my sister, is a doctor. So, when Mason showed up outside the restaurant at death's door, Ellie attempted to save him.
She...couldn't save Mason though. Turns out he was poisoned and they couldn't get him the antidote in time.
I first thought Mason was some sort of really bad guy. I mean, the flash I had showed all these nuclear weapons and explosions and stuff like that. Because of that, I was really worried for her until she got home. (Safe and sound, thankfully.)
It turned out that Mason wasn't really bad but he had codes for all sorts of nukes, which, if the codes fell into the hands of someone truly evil, that would be pretty scary.
Enter into the story, Reardon Paine. Now he was a really bad guy out to find these codes to sell to the highest bidder. Yeah, probably someone with thoughts of, oh, I dunno world domination or genocide. Or both.
Reardon came into our apartment while I was away and poisoned Ellie in an attempt to find out where the codes Mason had were. Ellie had no idea, but Reardon thought she would since she had tried to save Mason's life and all.
So...eventually, Ellie starts acting weird. I mean, really weird. Like saying my hair is "making funny animal shapes" weird. She passes out and Sarah and Casey discover she's been poisoned too.
It was then that honestly I totally freaked out. I could not lose Ellie. I would do anything to save her. I'd hand over the nuclear codes even.
Which...was pretty dumb of me. I mean, not only was I technically risking the lives of everyone in the world, I also managed to run into Reardon, causing him to drop a vial of poison. So now not only was Ellie poisoned, but so were Sarah, Casey, myself and Reardon.
Sarah managed to get one vial of antidote from Reardon before he escaped. She gave it to me and wanted me to take it. She and Casey start going on about how valuable I am and stuff but...I didn't care. Casey even threatened to shoot me but one of the effects of the poison was that it made you tell the truth. So, when I asked him if he'd really shoot me, he actually said, "No."
To which I retorted, "Yeah don't waste a bullet - we're already dead. I'm saving my sister!"
And I take it and run to Ellie's room and give it to her. And, I got her to take the antidote and thankfully, she got better.
In the end, we tracked down Reardon and got the antidote for each of us.
So life was now back to normal.
Or at least as normal as life can be for me right now.
