TM #223 - "I swear I didn't put those..."

"I swear I didn't put those Easter baskets in the kids' bedrooms," I remember my mother saying to my Dad.

This was Easter morning when I was eight years old. My mother had spied me with a ring of milk chocolate around my lips.

"Chuck sweetie?" she began.

"Mmm?" I answered, still with a bite of chocolate bunny in my mouth.

"Did you wake up early and get your Easter basket?"

I first tried to shake my head, but she shot me a look that basically said, "I know you did." So I nodded sadly.

"How did you find it?" she asked.

"Well," I began, feeling guilty, "Last year you hid our baskets in the towel closet. And the year before that, you hid them in the kitchen cupboards. So...um...Ellie and I looked in the towel closet and then in the kitchen cupboards. And then we found them. And you and Dad were still asleep and we uh...well, helped ourselves."

"Your sister found her basket too?" my mother asked. I could tell by what she said that she already knew, but I think she wanted me to confess this fact.

I nodded and my Dad went into Ellie's room.

My mother shook her head. "Chuck, you and Ellie were supposed to wait for us to wake up before you got your baskets. I'm very disappointed in you."

I bowed my head.

"Hand over your basket," my mom commanded, holding her right hand out.

I timidly handed the basket over. Most of the candy was still in it, but the chocolate bunny was currently headless.

"You and Ellie won't get any candy for the rest of the day."

I sighed.

"Now c'mon," she said, motioning for me to follow. "Let's get you cleaned up."

And as I stood in the bathroom while my mother washed the chocolate off my face, I heard Ellie scream, "You tattled, Chuck!" and growl before storming off in a huff.

Despite getting caught, it still was a good Easter though. Ellie, my Dad, my mother and I went out for dinner at nice restaurant. My Dad wasn't around much, so it was great for the four of us to be together.

Sadly, this isn't possible anymore...

Well...sometimes planned ones can be funny. Like if a friend of yours does it, it's not as mean spirited as a bully, you know?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
It also depends on what is done as a prank I think too.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose. I have never had anyone I like do such a trick to me.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
If you can laugh with the person that pulled the prank, then, well, it wasn't all that mean. But if you feel upset afterwards, then...well, that's the type of pranks I don't like.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
But how do you tell? I do not think I could do such a prank to Ando and not feel horrible. Well, maybe one of those peanut cans with a popout worm or something like that.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
See? Something like that. It's not hurtful...just kinda silly.

But still...I don't see myself doing them now. It's kinda something, you know, younger people do.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I guess silly things are ok. Ando and I have done silly things. And the worm in the can never gets old.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I did that one to my sister.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, she threw the can at me. She and I have never gotten along. Ando laughed when I did it to him.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, bummer. I do remember you had said you didn't get along with her though.

But at least Ando got a kick out of it. *grins*

It's a bit better now, but we still aren't close.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully as time goes on, you'll have a better relationship with your sister.

I mean,if you wanted to.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. She does not even know I have an ability.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Would you tell her if you got closer, you think?

[Locked to Hiro]

Ellie doesn't know about mine...but...well, I want her left outta all this crazy spy stuff as much as possible.

I do not know, unless she needed to know. Of course, there is the possibility she has one, too. Abilities run in families.

You have the added element of government spies. You cannot tell her without putting her in danger.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
True. She might have one and never told you about hers either. But if she did, do you think it would be fair to tell her about yours?

I know. Believe me, I know. When she was poisoned by some guy I flashed on...it was a sort of idea of what life could be like...a lot.

I hope no one ever goes after her again.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I would tell her. But if she has one and she knows it, she has not told me yet. If people are right, this means both our parents had powers. I know otosan did, but I do not know what he could do.

I hope no one hurts your sister, too. I am not close to Kimiko, but I hope that nothing ever happens to her. It must have been scary for you to have her get hurt when she has no idea of what is happening.

Maybe she doesn't know yet. Or maybe she just doesn't want to say anything.

Do you think your father had a power that might have been similar to yours?

She had no idea, and never exactly will. She just thinks she was poisoned for revenge purposes.

Still, pretty scary stuff...

Re: Locked

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Some people do not find their abilities for some years.

Usually when both parents have abilities, their children's powers are nothing like their own. If they have only one parent with an ability, then they have the same ability. Or so it seems. My father told me he had never gone through time, so he must not have had the same ability.

Revenge? Why would someone want revenge on your sister?

Re: Locked

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
So it's still possible she doesn't know. Or maybe...is it possible she doesn't have one?

That kinda makes sense. It's like...there's a gene to have an ability passed on...I think?

Well you see...

There was this guy named Mason Whitney. He was really not looking so good. And Ellie, my sister, is a doctor. So, when Mason showed up outside the restaurant we were at at death's door, Ellie attempted to save him.

She...couldn't save Mason though. Turns out he was poisoned and they couldn't get him the antidote in time.

I first thought Mason was some sort of really bad guy. I mean, the flash I had showed all these nuclear weapons and explosions and stuff like that. Because of that, I was really worried for her until she got home.

It turned out that Mason wasn't really bad but he had codes for all sorts of nukes, which, if the codes fell into the hands of someone truly evil, that would be pretty scary.

There was this guy that was chasing Mason named Reardon Paine. And Reardon was a really bad guy who after all those codes. He poisoned Ellie with a truth serum thing, hoping she'd tell where the codes were but she had no idea. And he was just gonna leave her to die.

We couldn't tell Ellie all that though. So...we sorta told her Reardon poisoned her since he had a grudge with Mason.
