TM #237 - It's your birthday!

My birthday last year was...kinda on the awkward side. My sister Ellie had only invited one of my friends - just Morgan. The rest of the guests were female friends of hers and the hope was that I'd take an interest in one of them.

So uh...this year....I kinda hope I get to plan my own birthday.

I dunno what I'd do really. I mean...birthdays were a bigger deal when I was a kid. There was a whole theme to it and stuff. If you couldn't be one of those lucky kids that could have their birthday parties at the cool places or have a bouncy castle in your backyard, you better have planned some cool activities.

I mostly just had some party games and a couple videos to watch and the kids wore like Star Wars party hats or something.

Nothing special.

Anyway...back to this year...

Maybe...instead of a party, we could just have a nice dinner somewhere instead. Keep things small. I don't really need anything fancy, you know?

Your sister did not try to fix you up with nice girls?

I...well, they sorta didn't listen to me much. And a couple kinda seemed to think I was lame for working for the Nerd Herd or something. One asked if I was wearing a costume and another wanted to know what I 'really wanted to do' with my life.

Of course...I really didn't help matters by rambling endlessly about my breakup with Jill. I dunno...one of 'em asked me when the last time I dated was and I just kept talking to the point where they all sorta walked away from me.

It sounds like they were looking for rich husbands. They wanted to know that you were going to make all kinds of money for them. I have met that kind of woman before.

Well, if women kept asking that kind of question, they should have expected the answer.

Maybe that's it. Or partly it. Many of Ellie's friends are doctors so maybe they didn't want a guy that they thought was just going to sorta leech off of them, you know?

I think they expected me to end when I told them how long it had been. They didn't really wanna hear the actually breakup story.

If they were doctors, then I suspect you are correct.

Which is rather strange, because they would want you to listen to their stories.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Though Ellie said ladies really don't wanna hear about past breakups in general or something.

*Hiro pouts.* I do not understand that about women. Why do they ask if they do not want to know?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Then they accuse us of not listening to them.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...that does sound kinda hypocritical, doesn't it?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think we stop listening to each other, if I have to be honest.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Sorta, yeah.

When we get married, we should be certain to listen to our wives so they will not get upset with us.

Sounds like a good plan. *smiles*

I think Ellie and Awesome sometimes need to be reminded of that. Cuz...well, they've had fights about that sorta stuff.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps part of your duty as brother-in-law will be to remind them of that.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I already figure it will part of mine. Though neesan will most likely tell me to get lost when I offer her advice.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
You never know...she might not. Depends...on how things are going at the time, you know?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. It would only happen once in a great while. After all, one cannot misuse their powers.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"With great power comes great responsibility." I think that is the most important lessons I learned from Spiderman.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that line certainly rings true.

Have you seen all the Spiderman movies, Hiro?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
*Hiro nods.* And have all of them on DVD. I liked #2 best, I think.
