New Year's Eve (open RP)

ooc: This post is open to everyone. Your character can drop by IC, metaly or via bendy time too. Whatever works. :) Feel to play and have fun!

It was a simple party. Snacks, a couple bottles of champagne and sparkling cider were neatly placed on a fold out table decorated with noise makers and party hats.

Guests were gathered in the courtyard just outside of Chuck and Ellie's apartment, chatting with one another.

The Morgan door was temporarily blocked by a small TV broadcasting 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve' in anticipation of the countdown to 2009.

"I'd love that! I've visited LA before, but not for any length of time, and I haven't seen much."

Rachel smiled, and shook her head. "It's where I'm from, but both my mom and my brother were out of town. But that's okay. Really I wanted to take the trip to show Mohinder where I grew up. And to pry him away from his work for a few days. He's been badly needing a break."

"Anything in particular that you'd like to see?" Chuck asked.

"That's too bad they weren't around. But at least you got to take a nice trip down memory lane. Mohinder probably enjoyed the break too. At least...I hope he's not too much of a workaholic to not enjoy the time off."

"Hmmmm." Rachel canted her head a bit, thinking that over. "Hollywood, of course. The Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame and all that old-time stuff. And... the Queen Mary? I'm enough of a nerd to find that totally interesting," she said, laughing.

"He really did enjoy the break. He kinda had to be convinced not to think about work, at least at first... but he relaxed soon enough. Of course, I'm sure once he's back from India he'll be right back in the lab, working hard again, but at least I got him away for a little while."

"Sure, we can do that! And trust me...I'd be the last person to call you a nerd for wanting to see that," Chuck replied, chuckling a bit.

"Oh man. Well, maybe the trip home will still take his mind off things for awhile at least."

Chuck then suddenly remembered his manners and offered, "By the way, can iI get you anything?"

"That would be so awesome," Rachel replied. "Thanks, Chuck. You're the best."

She nodded, and went on, "Yeah. And I think it'll do him good to see his family and his hometown again. He's been having a hard time. He misses home. I think the trip's going to help him out a lot."

She shook her head. "No, thank you, but it's sweet of you to offer. I'm just fine for now. So... are you expecting a big turnout tonight? Looks like a decent crowd so far."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Aw, thanks Rachel," Chuck said, with a bit of a bashful grin.

He nodded. "Well, hopefully the trip will help him out then and hopefully when he gets back, things will be better for him."

Chuck glanced around the courtyard and then turned back to Rachel. "Not a huge turnout, but maybe a couple more people will be dropping by."

Rachel nodded. "I hope so, too. I wish he could've come with me, but that's all right. I'm sure we'll be out here again at some point. Or if you're ever in New York, come look us up. I'd love for you to meet him. He's wonderful."

She smiled, and added, "You know, sometimes the best parties are small ones. You get to actually spend time with people, and catch up."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't mind heading back to New York sometime. And if I get out that way again, I'll definitely look you up. And I'm sure he's definitely a great guy too." Chuck then smiled.

"This is true. Plus I'm not a huge party person. I kinda like it when it's just people I know, really. I...get kinda shy with too many strangers around."

"Great. I think it'd be fun to have you in New York."

She grinned up at him. "I know exactly what you mean. I'd rather be able to spend quality time with a few people than trying to find people in some big crowd of strangers or whatever. This is nice."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd love to see more of the sites. The last time I was there, things were pretty rushed. And I think it would be great to meet up with you there too."

Chuck nodded. "Yeah at my birthday party back in 2007, my sister Ellie invited a lot of her friends to the party and I didn't know anybody really. I tried to escape from the party with Morgan, actually..."

"Well, why don't you plan a vacation for the coming year? You can totally crash on my couch if it helps with costs."

Rachel laughed knowingly. "Yeah. I felt like that a lot when I was working in DC, and had to go to fundraisers. I never knew anyone, and always got stuck making uncomfortable small talk with people I didn't know. I hated it. I always wished I could run out, but you never can with those."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-02 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks Rachel! It would, but I definitely don't wanna impose or anything. B-but maybe I can put in for some vacation time in advance and then that way I'll be sure to get it off. Do you know what time of the year might work best for you?" Chuck asked.

He nodded. "I'm sure you had a few to go to at that job. And...there probably was kinda ll that making a proper impression stuff going on?"
gotbottle: (half smile)

[personal profile] gotbottle 2009-01-02 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"You wouldn't be imposing, Chuck," Rachel insisted. "And the good thing about being self-employed again is I can arrange my work schedule for time off as needed. So you arrange what you can at work, and let me know. I'll be sure to have time off when you do."

Rachel laughed and nodded. "Yeah. It was a pain. Looking back now, I should have realized I wasn't, like, at all suited for those kinds of jobs, all that public contact. Not when I'm the kind of person who likes small parties and catching up with a few friends."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, if you insist I wouldn't be..." Chuck then grinned. "I'll do that. Maybe we should try for the spring sometime so we don't have to worry about snow storms or anything?" he suggested.

"You seemed happy with the people you directly worked for though. I mean on just that level...but I remember there was some craziness with the press you weren't happy about either..."
gotbottle: (classy)

[personal profile] gotbottle 2009-01-04 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yeah. Good thinking." Rachel laughed. "We don't want to be snowbound when we have so much to see."

She nods, a slightly sad smile spreading across her lips. "I loved those jobs. I just wasn't cut out for them. The people in Gotham were nice to work for. In DC... I was glad for the opportunity, and the faith they had in me. But I hated the press. If I never have to deal with them again, it's a day too soon."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. Or I may not be able to fly out there if there's a snow storm."

Chuck notices Rachel look a bit sad and bites his lip slightly. "I didn't mean to make you feel bad or anything...I just remembered the stories you used to tell me. You did a wonderful job, Rachel and I'm sure they miss you."

"Very true."

Rachel smiles, and puts a hand on Chuck's arm. "Thank you," she replies. "You didn't make me feel bad, don't worry. I know things are better now, on all fronts. 2009's gonna be a great year."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Chuck smiles back. "I'd toast to that but I don't have anything to drink on hand," he jokes.
