TM #292 - Show and tell.

We used to do show and tell every couple weeks in preschool and kindergarten.

I remember back when I was in kindergarten, I brought in this Return of the Jedi pop-up book. I loved that thing when I was a kid. There was a page where there would be a light saber battle between Luke and Darth Vader and the pull tab would make the beams go up and down and there was one where this net would go up and stuff.

Okay...so by then, Return of the Jedi was three years old. And some of my classmates thought I was a total nerd for wanting to bring this thing in. But it was one of my favorite books and was a bit worn from being read a few times over. It still was in decent shape though.

Despite a few snickers, I got through Show and Tell okay talking about how much I liked the book. I thought everything would be all right and I could take my treasured book home to enjoy later. But on my way back to my mat, this kid, Jason Fredricks, took the book from me and ripped part of my book. He ripped Darth Vader's light saber from the book and threw it in the trash. I remember running frantically to the trash can trying to find it amidst the pile of empty milk cartons from snack time.

My teacher ended up putting Jason in a time out and while she was doing so, I managed to find the light saber piece and placed it inside the book to repair when I got home.

That night, I told my Dad about what happened at Show and Tell.

"I almost cried," I told him. "But I didn't wanna seem like a baby."

"I know you love that book and I'm sure we can patch it up," he assured me. And with some surgical precision and clear Scotch tape, he mended the torn light saber. "There. Good as new....almost."

I tugged the pull tab and Luke and Darth could still fight each other fairly well, even with the tape. "Yeah. Thanks, Dad."

He patted my head and went off on his own while I amused myself with the pop up light saber battle.

I used to work 35 hours and now I work 37.5. (That's full time with the company I work with.) So, I now work three 9.5 hour days and one 9 hour day.

Actually, this is the first dose of the radiation. I thought he was going for radiation last week, but last week they just did tests and prep work for the radiation process.

At least you get 3 days off. You take the middle of the week, right?

So, has it happened? If so, how's he doing?

When I worked at the FBI, I had Fridays off. I actually prefer the Mondays off, honestly.

Glad to hear he's holding up so far.

Yeah. Seems a lot of places are closed Fridays. Doing appointments on Fridays isn't as easy as the other days of the week.

Me too.
