OOC: Short Hiatus

Hey all. I'm going to be heading to the west coast for a week. (The muse may live in California, but the mun lives on the east coast. *g*)

I'll be in Vegas for a couple of days and then visiting a family friend in California.

I'm leaving early tomorrow morning so I may catch up on a couple replies after work before I go. I should be back on-line sometime on the 17th. (My flight home gets in rather late on the 16th.)

Feel free to reply to this and leave a note of any threads I'll need to tag back when I'm on-line again.

Take care and see you in a week!

Actually, 44 then 36. I have the 2nd Monday off (which happens to be this Monday).

Oy! You gotta watch yourself in that kind of heat!

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Gotcha.

I know. But I didn't realize it was that hot.

Except for that near fainting spell, I so loved that park (Disney's California Adventure).

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
That was us in Denver. Our friends from CA were dragging and we were like "Lalala". When they told us it was 97 we were like "Impossible". But there it was on the bank sign...Something to be said for that dry heat.

So, what all is there in CA adventure?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh definitely something to be said for that dry heat. It kinda sneaks up on you.

There were lots of rides. Some that were amusement park like (big roller coaster, massive ferris wheel, bumper cars). Others were move based ones. (There was a Monster's Inc. ride that you rode past a bunch of anomatronic reenactments of scenes from that movie.)

There were also shows. We saw this Aladdin one that was awesome! It was like a Broadway production of the movie. Wonderful effects and performers and costumes and everything.

They had this animation tribute thing too and one of them allowed you to have an animator teach you how to draw a character. The class we were in was how to draw Winnie the Pooh. And you got to keep your drawing which was nice.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd definitely have to pass on the rides. I'm not a big ride person (and no one wants me to be on them, believe me). When we go to Busch, roomie does the rides and I just watch. The new Griffin is insane.

Obviously the drawing class is how they find their new talent...so, when are you moving over there? :)

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I don't like thrill rides either. I don't do roller coasters or anything like that. I HATE that dropping feeling. It makes me sick.

I do the tame stuff. And the Monster's Inc. one is really tame.

*giggles* I wish I were that good, seriously. I can't draw bodies to save my life.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have an inner ear problem. So, anything that whirls, twirls or anything like that is a problem for me. Makes me quite sick.

Those kinds of rides (Pirates of the Caribbean, Small World, etc.) are no problems. Had lots of fun going through the Haunted House at Disney World about 3 times.

It's been a while since I did any serious drawing. I should get back into it.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not fun. :(

Yeah, the Monster's Inc. one is like those kind of rides. I love Pirates and the Haunted Mansion rides. Small World irks me after awhile.

I haven't done any serious drawing for awhile. I have sketches and doodles, but nothing finished.

What kinds of stuff did you like to draw?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I mainly do, gee, anime! However, when I was in classes, I would do portraits of people in the class in ballpoint pen. I can't sit and just listen in a class. I do better by absorbing it subconsciously, then bringing it back when I need it. So, I've drawn a bunch of people from various classes. I even did one of a teacher who was just about to have tribbles dumped all over his head (in the portraint, not in reality).

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* I should have guessed on the anime. :)

That's pretty cool though. I never could do realistic portraits. That takes talent.

*giggles* A portrait of tribbles being dumped on someone's head. Too funny.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Heh...I know, I'm so transparent.

I can't do portraits, except in ballpoint. Which is rather bizarre, considering how unforgiving the medium is.

He was one of those very absent-minded professors. He probably wouldn't have noticed the tribbles being dropped on his head!

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
That is strange, given you can't erase at all or anything.

*lol*

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sometimes I'd have to abandon a few attempts when things just weren't working. I won't say that they were exactly life-like, but they were definitely more like regular portraits than anime-type portraits.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they were fine. :)

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'd also like to try more watercolors. I sometimes got some good effects from those. Unfortunately, though, I tend to be too clumsy with them.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Watercolors are tough. They bleed into each other very easily.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2008-04-19 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. It's a really tough medium. People who can do it well have to be incredibly patient. But you get such lovely effects with it.
