Off to New York (rp with [livejournal.com profile] only_pepper)

Chuck could not believe this was happening. Although he had been in contact with Pepper for a couple of weeks about starting his new job, there was something that still seemed surreal about it.

Not too long ago, he felt he was destined to spend the rest of his life behind the Nerd Herd desk. And now, here he was, about to board a private jet to New York.

He physically pinched himself to prove this wasn't all a dream. Right after he did so, he spotted Pepper waiting for him.

Pepper didn't know where the hell she was. This day had turned out so bizarre for her, and when Warren had finally left, and she'd gotten the car to drive her to the airport, it was still all a blur.

Seeing Chuck, however, centered her enough. Smiling, she waved him over. "Hello, darling," she said. "Did security give you a hard time? I hope not, come, the jet's waiting. We're ready to go. Give your things to the man over there, alright?" She spoke quickly, not because they were late, but she needed to have some control over what was happening.

Before too long, they're seated and Pepper pulled out some papers. It was easier to just get this done and over with first. The papers had all the salary, accommodations, benefits, everything. Chuck was going to be very well taken care of.

Chuck shook his head. "N-no, not really." He then picked up his suitcase and handed it to the man Pepper motioned to.

He definitely was not used to this kind of service. "Thank you, sir," he said politely.

Once Chuck was seated on the plane, Pepper had handed several paper. He looked them over in amazement. The job he left only paid him $11 an hour. "I...wow. Thanks again, Pepper. Really."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-05 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She simply shook her head, smile on her face. "No, thank you, Chuck. I realize this is very hard for you, to move across country, on my whim, and I want you to know that I appreciate it."

She leaned back on her seat, legs crossed. "Now, you'll be given your own place, of course, don't worry about rent. A company car for all work-related things. An expense account. And naturally, benefits. I don't know if you need anything else?"

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It was kinda tough on Ellie. She was sad to see me go. But she was happy that I was moving on with my life. Morgan, well, although he gave a speech saying I could be 'Emperor of the Known Universe' if I put my mind to it...well, he was bummed his buddy would be so far away." Chuck chuckled a bit and shook his head.

"I...can't think of anything else. I mean, I...guess like necessary stuff like food...um, is that what the expense account is for? Dumb question, probably. I just...yeah, never knew a life like this," Chuck rambled a bit sheepishly.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
She smiled and handed him another envelope. "Until you have a paycheque, you are to use this card. This will take care of any basic necessities you need. After your first cheque, of course, the rest is up to you and if you want to move anywhere, please, let me know. After all, I want you to be comfortable here. I really am happy to have you here."

She uncrossed her legs, and put her elbows on her legs. "Welcome to the world of business, Chuck. Appearances are everything. It's important to look your best as well as act your best. You'll do fine."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, sure. I-I'll be responsible with it. No...you know, charging a flat screen to the credit card or anything." He then nervously laughed. "B-but thank you Pepper. It's really, really an honor."

"Right. I'll probably need a couple more suits. I kinda only own three. And one's white so...yeah, not exactly business attire."

He bought himself the white one at Roan's advice and was given one suit by his father and the other suit was given to him after his Black Widow mission.

"And totally. I'll be on my best behavior at work and be professional and and that and...I...probably will need to stop rambling. I do have a habit of doing that, especially when I'm nervous or excited. And I'm kinda both right now," Chuck rambled.

Pepper just smiled.

"It'll take some getting used to, you know. You're going to be in front of some important people on a regular basis. But I have faith in you."

She hadn't thought about his clothing at all though, to be honest. "Yes, business suits are required unfortunately, the whole get up. We'll have to do something about that immediately." Fishing out her phone, she sent off a quick text and got one back almost instantaneously. "Perfect. Saturday morning, you'll have a meeting with Lorne Temples. He's a tailor, has ready made suits, anyways, we'll take care of that problem instantly. I'm only doing all this for you, because I know you don't know New York at all. Once you get a better sense of where you are and what you're doing, I'm sure you won't even need me. After all," she smirked, "you're supposed to be my assistant and not the other way around."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Chuck felt bashful once again. "Wow, you...sure have connections! Tha-thanks Pepper. I mean, I wouldn't have really known where to start shopping for those. So thanks for your help with that. This guy's probably kinda expensive though. Um...I dunno how much I have on me, but I'll figure something out."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Pepper grinned. "Chuck, these will be your connections. By December, you will know every single important person imaginable in the business world, I guarantee that. Hopefully, you won't be doing this type of work for long, because I know it's a waste of your education, but I hope you do enjoy your time at Stark Industries."

At the mention of money, she simply waved her hand. "Start-up costs. Don't worry about it."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Chuck looked a bit stunned. "Y-you really think so?"

He still felt bashful about the incentives Pepper was giving him. "Wow. Th-thanks!"

ooc: Gah...I guess the notify on this one got lost. Sorry for the delay on this.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"And you have to stop thanking me," she chided him gently. "I'm not giving you anything more than what you deserve, all right? Now how about you just sit back, enjoy the fact you're in a private jet, and soon we'll be in New York."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck gave a bashful smile. "I dunno about deserve..."

He then looked out the window and smiled a bit before turning back to Pepper. "You know...as crazy as this is going to sound...I used to think of an alter ego for myself. He was Charles Carmichael, semi-retired wealthy software engineer planning to buy a yacht to sail in America's Cup or something." He shook his head slightly. "This...just sorta seems like, well how Mr. Carmichael would spend his days. I thought, you know, that kinda life was just a daydream."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Smiling softly, she nodded her head slightly.

"You know Chuck, my family always had money when I was a kid. I mean, my mom ran her own restaurant, five star, very prestigious and we lived in a beautiful gated community, large house. Anyways, I always thought I knew what it was like to be rich. And then I started working for Tony. The man is worth more than 300 billion dollars -- nothing can compare to that lifestyle."

She shrugged and leaned back in her seat, opening a bottle of water and gave him a little smirk. "But if you still want to learn how to sail a yacht, Tony has one. I'm sure you can get lessons."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck grinned and shook his head. "He has a yacht, huh? Why does that not surprise me." With a grin, he continued, "Not sure really where the yacht thing came in. I guess I just figured it's something wealthy people have. Those and...well, private jets like these."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
And she had to laugh at that."That is.. so true. I know quite a few billionaires, and the odd millionaire and wouldn't you know it, they all have their own yachts and jets. Huh. I never thought about it before."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe it's like that toy you buy to say 'hey, I made it' or something. I dunno." Chuck them shrugged but smiled.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is quite possibly true," she admitted. "I bought myself the most ridiculous car when I knew I'd finally made myself successful. I suppose the idea of not caring where your money goes, and knowing that's not a problem, that's when you know you've made it?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck shrugged. "I guess so? I wouldn't know. Not...yet, at least?"

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"One day, Chuck," she promised. "You'll realize it and before you know it, you'll have an inappropriate car and a yacht and you won't know what to do with all your money."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck bashfully grinned. "If you say so."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded ,beaming. "I do say so. Now sit back, enjoy the ride. We'll be in NYC before you know it."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I will Pepper." He beamed as he looked out the window.
