Off to New York (rp with [livejournal.com profile] only_pepper)

Chuck could not believe this was happening. Although he had been in contact with Pepper for a couple of weeks about starting his new job, there was something that still seemed surreal about it.

Not too long ago, he felt he was destined to spend the rest of his life behind the Nerd Herd desk. And now, here he was, about to board a private jet to New York.

He physically pinched himself to prove this wasn't all a dream. Right after he did so, he spotted Pepper waiting for him.

Chuck looked a bit stunned. "Y-you really think so?"

He still felt bashful about the incentives Pepper was giving him. "Wow. Th-thanks!"

ooc: Gah...I guess the notify on this one got lost. Sorry for the delay on this.

"And you have to stop thanking me," she chided him gently. "I'm not giving you anything more than what you deserve, all right? Now how about you just sit back, enjoy the fact you're in a private jet, and soon we'll be in New York."

Chuck gave a bashful smile. "I dunno about deserve..."

He then looked out the window and smiled a bit before turning back to Pepper. "You know...as crazy as this is going to sound...I used to think of an alter ego for myself. He was Charles Carmichael, semi-retired wealthy software engineer planning to buy a yacht to sail in America's Cup or something." He shook his head slightly. "This...just sorta seems like, well how Mr. Carmichael would spend his days. I thought, you know, that kinda life was just a daydream."

Smiling softly, she nodded her head slightly.

"You know Chuck, my family always had money when I was a kid. I mean, my mom ran her own restaurant, five star, very prestigious and we lived in a beautiful gated community, large house. Anyways, I always thought I knew what it was like to be rich. And then I started working for Tony. The man is worth more than 300 billion dollars -- nothing can compare to that lifestyle."

She shrugged and leaned back in her seat, opening a bottle of water and gave him a little smirk. "But if you still want to learn how to sail a yacht, Tony has one. I'm sure you can get lessons."

Chuck grinned and shook his head. "He has a yacht, huh? Why does that not surprise me." With a grin, he continued, "Not sure really where the yacht thing came in. I guess I just figured it's something wealthy people have. Those and...well, private jets like these."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
And she had to laugh at that."That is.. so true. I know quite a few billionaires, and the odd millionaire and wouldn't you know it, they all have their own yachts and jets. Huh. I never thought about it before."

"Maybe it's like that toy you buy to say 'hey, I made it' or something. I dunno." Chuck them shrugged but smiled.

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is quite possibly true," she admitted. "I bought myself the most ridiculous car when I knew I'd finally made myself successful. I suppose the idea of not caring where your money goes, and knowing that's not a problem, that's when you know you've made it?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck shrugged. "I guess so? I wouldn't know. Not...yet, at least?"

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"One day, Chuck," she promised. "You'll realize it and before you know it, you'll have an inappropriate car and a yacht and you won't know what to do with all your money."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck bashfully grinned. "If you say so."

[identity profile] only-pepper.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded ,beaming. "I do say so. Now sit back, enjoy the ride. We'll be in NYC before you know it."

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I will Pepper." He beamed as he looked out the window.
