ooc: Thoughts/rants on tonight's episode

So I watched tonight's episode later than usual since I also watch '24' and that was a 2 hour one.

And for several minutes after viewing tonight's episode, Chuck just kept saying "I hate my life" over and over in my head.

Obviously, you could tell the episodes were aired out of order since tonight's episode picked up right after 'Suburbs' and that aired two weeks ago.

Okay. I know one constant with Chuck is that whenever he's told he's useless, he tries to prove himself useful and usually winds up in trouble. Now, usually when Chuck does this, he's either trying to rescue someone or whatever.

But having Chuck trying to hack the Fulcrum chip at his Nerd Herd desk was really dumb. I know they were setting that up for him to get caught and didn't want Fulcrum in the Castle or at his apartment but...couldn't they have at least had Chuck off somewhere with a laptop or something instead? I mean, c'mon! Anyone could have seen what was on that.

Two...I don't like when they make Chuck possessive of Sarah. I forgave it when he acted that way when Bryce flirted with her though. Here's why - Chuck thought that Bryce stole Jill from him (not learning the truth until running into Jill again) and while he knows Bryce getting him expelled wasn't completely to be cruel, I think Chuck is still a bit bitter about that. So, Chuck acting possessive of Sarah with Bryce I took to stem from issues with Bryce. Like, 'do not fuck up my life anymore, Bryce.'

With Cole? I dunno, Chuck was bordering on stalker. If this is how they wanted to deal with the legit roadblock that Sarah's missions sometimes would have her acting seductive towards other guys, then...I just was not a fan of the execution. I do believe the idea itself needs to be explored though, yes. In Sarah's line of work, that is something is a very real possibility.

(I hope that doesn't make me sounding like a whining 'shipper, because that's not how I meant it. I just don't like possessive-stalker Chuck. Or completely dumb Chuck.)

Yeah, i wasn't liking the flow tonight myself either. Everything felt off, even the subplot with the guys at the Buy More and just... yeah.

And I knew it was out of order because Anna was no where to be around and Morgan moving in with Chuck and calling Sarah a 3rd wheel but nothing with Anna... yeah.

*sighs*

I say the boys go to Vegas, get drunk, stupid, and have to rescue each other from the Fulcom/KAOS double team agents. *nods*

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing I thought seemed 'right' was Morgan's storyline. He's a putz, let's be real. So him screwing up like that was very IC.

Anna only got a brief mention of being out of town. But yeah, you'd think she should have been around for the reaction to Morgan wanting to move in with his friend and not her.

*laughs* Sure. :) Sounds like fun.

ooc: Be right there! :)

[identity profile] criminal-issues.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
You do not sound like you're whining!

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
I agree completely. Chuck is actually mature enough to let her go, knowing exactly what kind of relationship they'll never have. I think he's been growing up quite a lot this season, especially in understanding what he really wants in the world. The spy world has given him a purpose and focus he never thought he'd have, but at the same time it isn't really what he wants. He would love to have a real relationship with Sarah, but he understands just how limited that alley is, too.

I would rather that if they're going to get back together, it be something natural, not the typical new-man-threatens-established-relationship-recently-broken-up thing.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think to be honest that Chuck and Sarah can only have a real relationship if they're on the same level. One of them has to change - either Chuck has to be a full fledged spy or Sarah has to become a civilian.

To be honest, even if he's having issues letting her go, I'd rather him be more...like a sad puppy? Disappointed, sure. That's understandable. Possessive just...ug. I don't like it.

Yes, I agree with that. Or in general, I would like the roadblocks of the relationship to be dealt with better. If they're mishandled, they seem to be 'roadblocks for roadblocks sake.' That gets annoying. Do something more like the end of 'Santa Claus' where Chuck is bothered or something. That route is fine. It seems much more natural.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sad puppy works. The fact that Chuck didn't really pursue Jill tells me that he basically ends up being a sad puppy type. Big heaving sighs, but eventually he figures it was just him. Which is something a lot of geeks live with (Hiro nods furiously).

That's very true. Until they can be equal, there won't be a relationship. Chuck being Sarah's "charge" is just not going to make any part of it real.

Yeah, I agree. They have plenty of realistic roadblocks they can use, rather than having to throw in stupid ones that too many other shows have used.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Right. He tried to get Jill back once and when she rejected him again, he was sad puppy for five years.

Well...parts of it are still 'real.' The problem is, neither of them knows exactly where that line is. Chuck especially. Whenever he thinks Sarah has opened up to him about how she feels about him, something happens and it's "that was a cover" or "that was a mistake" or something.

Bingo. Well, we'll see how this Cole thing plays out. But I'm not a fan of him. :P

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hiro gives Chuck a big squishy hug.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Chuck could use a hug or two.

As could Hiro...is it me or has the show kinda forgotten about him?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, Hiro can use a hug.

I think they're just cutting out how he's going through Palin's backyard to get back to the US.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
*snickers* So that's where he is. ;)

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Had to make their way from India to Russia, then cut across her backyard to get to Canada, then the US.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still convinced Hiro has access to the off-shore Yamagato accounts. There is no way they could have gotten over to India otherwise.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Right. But still...how did they get access to passports and whatnot?

Oh well...I guess we're not supposed to overthink this show. :)

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I guess. Cause if this was the real world, they would be in so much trouble for kidnapping Hiro off of Japanese soil. You just don't dis a major ally like that. He's a Japanese citizen, not an American one and they seem to keep forgetting that.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! Unless at some point he was given duel citizenship and it was never told to us. But still, that would still create issues even if that was the case.
Edited 2009-03-09 01:40 (UTC)

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely. However, I doubt very sincerely that Kaito ever obtained dual citizenship for himself, let alone his kids.

OOC: Saw "Watchmen". OMG, so good!!!

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not. It's more like Kaito would be the only duel citizen of the family if any of them were.

ooc: Awesome. :) I've heard it's really good.

Hey, I just got a total crack idea...maybe for this week's TM topic, you could write about Hiro seeing 'Watchmen.' Hee.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
True.

OOC: Go see it. Although I will warn that the movie does keep up the level of violence the comic does and it seems a bit more simply because it's live action as opposed to a series of drawings.

Would Chuck wince at the more violent scenes?

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
ooc: I've heard it's good but violent.

Well...is the violence gory? I'm thinking that sort of stuff might make him wince. I don't think violence itself bothers Chuck since he watches like Lord of the Rings and such. Gore maybe...or something that reminds him a little too much of his life might bother him.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
OOC: Not gory, per se, but I think he might wince at a couple of places, especially since some of the stuff comes pretty close to stuff he's seen Casey do.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
ooc: Maybe would be a bit taken back and whisper something like, "I've seen that...for real." Obviously he wouldn't say much being it's a public place and also they'd both wanna watch the movie. :)

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
OOC: That's good. Yeah, they couldn't be too free with everything, especially since neither Ando nor Morgan knows about Chuck and Morgan doesn't know about Hiro.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
ooc: Yeah. Hmm, since Ando and Morgan would be there, Chuck just might give Hiro a look that he'd understand and the others might think he was just a bit bothered by the movie.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
ooc: Yeah. Hmm, since Ando and Morgan would be there, Chuck just might give Hiro a look that he'd understand and the others might think he was just a bit bothered by the movie.

Did LJ hiccup? Your reply is the same as mine above...

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you reply anything that got overwritten or did it just duplicate the comment?

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It must have overwritten it. Now I can't remember what I was saying. Grrrr, stupid LJ.

[identity profile] powered-otaku.livejournal.com 2009-03-15 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It obviously needs much kicking.

I also agree. (And also see the difference and why it worked with Bryce)

And there's a trend I really don't like on the show -- I know they keep playing it for laughs, and the perpetrators always fail, but the whole stalkerish/really creepy attitude towards women as humorous subplot kind of freaks me out. I get that Jeff and... um. the other guy whose name I can't remember, are supposed to be creepy dorks, but still, it makes me really uncomfortable.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. As Sarah!mun also added, and I agree, there's also the issue of 'you had your chance with Sarah, let me have mine.'

Yeah, that's understandable. It's a bit overdone at times. And that whole plot last night with Jeff and Lester (that's the other guy) just...gah. Not only was it creepy, it made no sense. Like supermodels would actually answer their ad and go to an interview at a Buy More? Riiight...

[identity profile] lt-wes-janson.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I agree 100%. The possessive streak is getting a little old, given that they have been playing it rather a lot lately, at least as far as I can see. And hacking the chip in the office, right out there in the open? *shakes head* I would think he would be smarter than that at least.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I would have thought so too. Chuck bumbling his way to try to save someone is okay, perfectly IC, but him acting that dumb just...irked me.

[identity profile] sarahwalker.livejournal.com 2009-03-03 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, I agreed with Chuck going after Sarah when she asked for the champagne, that makes sense.

I also agreed with his Bryce issues, especially at the time they occurred. I took it more as a "You had her, now I do, back off" kinda thing.

This episode did freak me out too, I mean Chuck doesn't seem like the stalkery type, nor someone dumb enough to hack the chip in the Buy More.

I do also like the Sarah having to seduce other people as an issue though, one I was thinking of exploring a little bit from her side myself.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah. I had no issue with Chuck bumbling his way to try to rescue Sarah. That's a consistent thing that he does. The scene where he confesses to be the Intersect...was sorta IC? Though honestly, it would have made more sense if he confessed that because Sarah was being hurt, not Cole.

Yeah, you're right. The 'back off' feeling was probably part of his reaction towards Bryce too.

He's seemed mostly out of character this episode. Save for the part you pointed out and the scenes with Morgan, Ellie and Awesome...Chuck seemed 'off' to me.

I think it would be something interesting to explore, honestly.

Though I did enjoy Casey's method of delivering advice on women to Chuck. That made me laugh.

[identity profile] nerdherdchuck.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh the part at the beginning where he's commenting on the whole breakup thing? Yeah, that was pretty good.
